Palak Paneer Recipe

Palak Paneer is a creamy Indian spinach paneer curry made with fresh palak, soft paneer, onion, tomato, and simple Indian spices.

Ingredients
  

  • * 250 grams paneer cubed
  • * 250 grams fresh spinach leaves / palak
  • * 1 medium onion chopped
  • * 1 medium tomato chopped
  • * 2 green chilies
  • * 1 inch ginger
  • * 4 garlic cloves
  • * 1 tablespoon oil
  • * 1 tablespoon butter or ghee
  • * 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • * 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • * 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • * 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • * 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • * 1/2 teaspoon kasuri methi crushed
  • * 2 tablespoons fresh cream or malai optional
  • * Salt as needed
  • * Water as needed

Equipment

  • * Pan or kadai

  • * Knife
  • * Chopping board
  • * Spoon or spatula

Method
 

  1. Wash the spinach leaves properly.
  2. Boil water in a pan and blanch the spinach for 2 minutes.
  3. Transfer the spinach to cold water, then drain it.
  4. Blend spinach with green chilies, ginger, and garlic to make a smooth paste.
  5. Heat oil and butter in a pan.
  6. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
  7. Add chopped onion and cook until light golden.
  8. Add chopped tomato and cook until soft.
  9. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt.
  10. Cook the masala for 1–2 minutes.
  11. Add the spinach paste and mix well.
  12. Add a little water and cook on low flame for 5–6 minutes.
  13. Add paneer cubes and mix gently.
  14. Cook for 2–3 minutes.
  15. Add garam masala, crushed kasuri methi, and cream if using.
  16. Mix gently and serve hot.

Notes

Do not overcook spinach after blending, or the color may turn dull.
* Soak paneer in warm water for 10 minutes if it feels firm.
* Fresh cream is optional.
* Adjust green chili and red chili powder as per taste.
